I am a Christian, and I don’t hate gay people.
This may be a controversial topic, but please don’t hate. I have to speak the truth.
I saw an article on Facebook last night. It was encouraging people to sign a petition supporting some Christians at a Baking company. They had refused to decorate a Cake with a pro-gay marriage slogan. People I knew, (Christians) were sharing this petition, as a show of their support. This confused and saddened me. I knew I needed to say something.

Below is my response.
I am a Christian. And I DON’T agree with this.
I’m not saying that I promote homosexuality, but I definitely don’t hate gay people. Why should we discriminate them? They are people and they have rights, just like any other person. Didn’t Jesus say: ”Love thy neighbour.”…? Even if you disapprove of their way of life, what’s it got to do with you? It is for God to judge, not us. Can’t we show them kindness and acceptance? Gay people can’t change the way they are. Why can’t we respect each other’s beliefs and choices?
I know this particular instance, with the cake, is not a huge problem. But it is reflected by other, much worse cases, and comes from a deeper issue….
Because of some Christians voicing their views; condemning gay people, it has set a dark cloud over Christianity. In the eyes of rest of the world, we are often considered homophobes, or Gay-haters. This is NOT true for all Christians. Maybe we don’t agree with it. But we can’t hate you for it. People don’t deserve prejudice or hostility, just because they are different.
What we SHOULD be doing is spreading the love of God and bringing people together, not causing conflict and division.
(**I am speaking only for myself here, I don’t know what other Christians believe, and think. This is purely my individual opinion. I do not mean to offend anyone.)
I don’t want to start arguments, and I don’t have the right to tell anybody what to do. But I strongly believe that inequality for anyone is wrong. And that God wouldn’t want to encourage hateful or unfair attitudes and behaviours. I wanted to say something. Something that would make fellow Christians think.
And also something that would let Non-Christians know that we’re not what you assume; we’re not what you think. Don’t put us in a box before you’ve given us a chance. Don’t let other peoples’ ideas, what you read about, or what you see on TV influence your opinion on Christianity. Find out what we are for yourself.
I, personally, think it’s all about love. And God loves everybody. – Including gay people.
Please repost this if you agree. It is an important issue for me, and I had to speak out. I believe its something people should know about. Let us spread the LOVE, not hate.
Please let me know what you think about this. Whether you are Christian or not, Gay or not; it affects us all. What do you think?
I hope you didn’t mind a more serious post. I hope you liked it.
